Today's blog is going to be more informational as to why we are detoxing using the recipes mentioned in last weeks entry. I always believe in researching whatever I plan to introduce to my body because not only is it my temple, but I need it to accomplish all that I am purposed for. Meaning, if I am purposed to run a marathon I can't have my body give out 13.1 miles in...I'm just saying.
The amount of juice yielded from the vegetables and fruit is dependent on the type of juicer used. I use a masticating (cold press) juicer which slowly grinds and presses the ingredients to release the juice. I have also used a centrifugal juicer with gives a pretty good yield with the below ingredients, except with the leafy greens (you'll more than likely need to use a little more greens to get the appropriate measurements of juice). Nevertheless both juicers work well for these recipes. You may use all three juice recipes during this detox, or stick to one depending on your target, just be sure to consume 16-ounces of juice twice a day.
For beginners: take one serving in the morning, eat raw during the day (live salad/fruit/nuts), and one serving in place of dinner. Be sure to drink water and/or herbal tea in-between.
For seasoned detox-ers: drink at least 16-ounces of juice twice a day, be sure to drink water and/or herbal tea in-between.
Recipe 1 (Green Juice)
8oz kale = about two bunches
10oz apple = about 3-4 medium in size
10oz cucumber = 1 large or 2 medium
4oz lemon = two medium size
1 inch ginger root = I use about 2 1/2 inches
1 inch turmeric root = I use about 2 inches
This juice combination works well to purge, purify, and build. The kale juice supports the immune system, helps to manage blood pressure, and cleanses the mucous membrane of the stomach and intestinal tract. Apples are packed with phytonutrients and antioxidants, this combined with lemon juice gives a great source of Vitamin C. Cucumber juice is high in potassium which helps regulate high and low blood pressure, and is a natural diuretic aiding in detoxing. Ginger and turmeric aids in digestion, reduces inflammation, and cleanses the buildup of waste and toxins in the colon, liver, and other organs. If you have a sensitive stomach you may eliminate the ginger and turmeric from the recipe.
Recipe 2 (Fibrin/Tumor Fighter)
16oz carrot = about 1 1/2 pounds
8oz spinach = 3/4 of a pound
4oz turnip = about a medium size turnip, use root and leaves, or just 1 bunch of the leaves
4oz watercress = 1/2 pound
Although this juice combination is not the most tasteful due to the turnip and watercress flavor, it is very effective in dissolving coagulated blood fibrin that have accumulated in the dead ends of blood vessels, and in many kinds of tumors. It contains essential components that are necessary for the normal regeneration of the blood and for increasing oxygen transmission in the blood stream. The carrot juice dissolves impurities and passes the waste through the lymph for elimination from the body. Spinach cleanses, reconstructs, and regenerates the intestinal tract and colon, which is ideal when detoxing.
Recipe 3 (Body Builder)
16oz carrot = about 1 1/2 pounds
6oz beet = a medium sized beet with leaves
10oz celery = 1/2 pound or about 8-9 stalks
This mild combination is a blood cleanser and builder. Celery juice contains a high percentage of of vital organic sodium. Organic sodium maintains the flow of the blood and lymph, preventing them from becoming too thick. Raw carrot juice is resistant to infections doing most efficient work in conjunction with the adrenal glands. It is the richest source of Vitamin A which the body can quickly absorb and use. The carrot and beet combo supplies a good balance of phosphorous and sulphur on one end, and potassium and other alkaline elements on the other. This works well with Vitamin A making this recipe an effective natural builder of the blood cells (red blood corpuscles).
Remember, juice detoxing is a lifestyle practice for holistic maintenance that takes discipline, sacrifice and dedication. I have witnessed many ailments disappear by simple steps taken to improve ones quality of life. Detoxing once a month helps with the physical aspect, but be sure to examine your heart and mind as resentment, anger and hurt (trauma) may be holding toxicity in your temple.
