There’s a lot of talk about the importance of frequent detoxing, but how much do you really know?
Detoxing involves naturally removing toxins from your body (blood) that may accumulate from where we live, what we eat and drink, cleaning agents we use, and also medications and supplements we consume. Because our bodies are so fearfully and wonderfully made, there is a natural process which periodically occurs within specific systems that ensures our organs function optimally in order to maintain homeostasis (balance). Even though our bodies are created to continually go through this purging process in order to survive, there are elements that can cause a disconnect between the detoxification organs (liver and kidneys) and endocrine gland system.
The endocrine system is a messenger system that creates hormones and releases them into the circulatory system, which then regulates target organs. The hypothalamus, pituitary gland, and pineal gland are in your brain. The thyroid and parathyroid glands are in your neck. The thymus is between your lungs, the adrenals are on top of your kidneys, the pancreas is behind your stomach, and we all know where the ovaries and testicles are located.
When there is an endocrine system disruption (stress and/or chemical exposure), healthy hormone production may take a hit resulting in hormonal imbalances. This is where detoxing helps by cleansing the body to encourage equilibrium and normal function. This process can vary depending on the target system however, there has been adequate research that shows a holistic approach can reset hormonal levels in about three months.
There are many different ways to detox and rebuild your endocrine system, and finding the best route to achieve desired results is a personal journey. Consult with a nutritionist, herbalist, or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) to figure out the best path for you to take.
As with every holistic approach, you have to make a mental, spiritual and physical decision to want to do the work in order to receive total healing. What better time to start than the present? And the reset continues...
